<aside> πŸ’‘ Health insurance is mandatory in German and you need to submit proof of health insurance in order to enroll at Hochschule Fresenius. Please note: This is something that you can and should already take care of while still abroad!

There are various options regarding health insurance, depending on your age and country of residence. Most people in Germany (around 88%) are insured with a public health insurance company. Our health insurance partner Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) designed a special landing page with all necessary information for international students: https://www.landingpage.tk.de/your-start-at-fresenius-k-ln

You can and should already start applying for German health insurance from abroad in order to save time and finish your enrollment in Germany as soon as possible. After arriving in Germany, please activate your health insurance. Your insurance company will then notify us digitally about your status. Don’t forget to have a look at our page on medical services in Germany, so you know what to do and where to go in case of illness.

What proof of health insurance is necessary for my enrollment?

Students are required to submit proof of health insurance, with specific documentation depending on individual circumstances. Here are the three possible scenarios and their corresponding requirements:

Public Health Insurance

If you are registered with a German public health insurance, you need to activate the insurance after entering Germany and your insurance provider will electronically notify us about your membership

Private Health Insurance

πŸ›ŽοΈ In case you are over 30 years old and purchased private health insurance, please write an email to Sarah Nettersheim ([email protected]) asking for an exemption letter for your enrollment at Hochschule Fresenius.

European students

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί If you are coming from an EU/EEA country or the UK, you can stay insured in your home country via your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), or certificate of entitlement. However, you will still need to submit some information for enrollment: https://www.tk.de/en/become-a-member/join-tk/european-student-ehic-2174248?aid=s4k
